And now we are at the airport awaiting a flight to the States! We will be in Houston till Dec 29th, then going to Virginia for two days, then on to Saint Louis for 6 days, back to Houston for 4 days, spend a day in Louisiana, and finally back to our home on Jan 11th. Whew! We are so blessed and looking forward to seeing all our friends and family :-D Have a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year!!
What a week we've had! We moved into our new home on Sunday! We are renting a beautiful 2 story house with 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths within walking distance from the church. It is up on a big hill so there is always a wonderful breeze and a pretty decent view. For the following 3 days I have been going from one store to another getting some of the hundreds of things needed for a home. We were able to find a used fridge and stove from another missionary for a very good price. We got a new bed, microwave, and coffee maker (very important) :-D Then on Thursday we had our first bbq and had several friends over from the church! We had a great time time and the house was filled with laughter and fellowship.

We had a wonderful visit in the States with family and friends. We also met with our sending church, Ethos. Ethos has been absorbed into their parent church, Faith Assembly, due to insufficient members. They now make up a young adult ministry at Faith. We were able to sit down with Pastor Dan, the head pastor at Faith, and discuss our future with them. Pastor Dan was very encouraging and assured us that Faith will continue to support us as Ethos had in being our US sending church. In addition to that, he said Faith would add some financial support. Praise God !! So everyone please pray for Faith Assembly and the Ethos ministry for growth and provision. I have updated our Support page to reflect the new mailing address for those wishing to support Sutton and me.
We are now back in our home country of Honduras and Sutton is already back to work at Tsebaoth Christian Academy. He will be teaching 6th grade this year :) We also came home to water and power shortages. It seems Honduras is in a major drought so they are rationing water. And since most of our power comes from a nearby damn, they will be rationing power as well. The newspaper says we'll have 4 hours of outages a day for the next month or so. So please pray for Honduras as well. Pray that the Lord will send the rains to water our crops and to provide water and electricity for our residents. Thank you and God Bless !! Ok, so I am finally sitting down for a bit. I had a very good visit with my family when in town for my grandmother's funeral. Then I went home to a house full of Americans. They came to Honduras for the intense prophetic training, called the EPI, that our church gives twice a year. The EPI is a fantastic week long training in prophetic gifts, spiritual warfare, and so much more. Sutton and I joined the serving teams for the week of the EPI. After that we packed-up and came to the States for a visit with family, friends, and churches while Sutton is on summer break. So we are in the States for a few weeks, two here in Houston, TX and one in Saint Louis, MO. If you are near either of those two places and would like to visit, feel free to send me a message at terri@solarmissionary.org or give me a call. God bless!
Well the good news is the Haiti mission is now complete and we were able to get everything done plus some. Since my last post Craig, Jacob, and I finished the evaluations and did some battery management in Jereme, Sam rewired the transformer for the JIH system on the other side of Port-au-Prince, and Allen did several more site surveys. We all came back together on Wednesday and were able to install 6 extra solar panels we had for a wonderful missionary couple in Leogane. Jasmine wrote a beautiful summary of their surprise and gratefulness on their ministry Facebook page at Family of Faith Haiti Ministries. It was a great way to finish a mission.
The sad news is that while I was in Haiti my grandmother passed away. So instead of going home I am on my way to Saint Louis, MO. I was able to change my flights to add in a jog over to St. Louis so that I can attend her funeral on Saturday and be with my mom. Please pray for her and the rest of our family. Thank you. USA flights have been booked :D Sutton and I will be going to the States for a few weeks this summer to visit family and meet with our church. We will be in Houston from July 15th till the 30th. On the 30th we'll fly to Saint Louis to see more family. We return to Honduras on August 4th, though we won't be home till the 5th. We have an overnight in Miami both going to and leaving the States. I was able to get at lease one flight using miles, so the overnights aren't a big deal. We're really looking forward to seeing everyone.
Back in Teguc and back to the grind. I am working on designs for two different systems in Haiti. I'm watching flight prices for a couple trips, one to the States in July and one to Columbia in late Summer. There are also several other potential missions on the calender (recently updated) and even some not yet listed. In addition to that, we are working an earth day event hosted by the US Embassy on Friday, our church has a family day tomorrow, and I've been asked to be a judge at the TCA science fair next Friday. Still on the to-do list is finishing my 2013 taxes (yes I applied for an extension), post photos for several missions (last years missions and Panama), and renew my NABCEP certification (it expires next month). At least I don't think I am traveling anywhere in May, neither with-in Honduras or beyond, so hopefully I can get Caught Up. :D
On the up-side, Craig did post some photos from the workshop this past weekend. I have included a few pics below, but you can also go here to see the full album. Having breakfast at the Miami international airport. Training this weekend went great. We had a good turnout and the students seemed well engaged. There were lots of good questions throughout and much interest in the upcoming Spanish River missions to both Haiti and Columbia. I also had some great fellowship with the wonderful people at Spanish River. I look forward to going back in future years. But for now I'm happy to be going back home to Honduras and my sweet hubby :-D
I am now at my host home in Boca Raton, FL after a somewhat eventful day. This morning was a little nerve racking as I wasn't sure I was going to make my flight. I had to get an extension on my visa which means leaving my passport with the immigration office. Last week was Semana Santa (Holy Week) so most of the country was off work. The earliest I could take my passport to the immigration office was this Monday. So I took it in and told the lady that I had a flight booked for today and she assured me my passport would be ready to pickup at 9 am this morning. But of course when we went in to get it they did not have it ready. At first the lady could not find it. Then they found it in a stack awaiting the directors signature but were reluctant to take it to the director. So we basically stood there and harassed them until they got annoyed with us enough to go to the directors office. At this point it was already 10:20 and I had to be at the airport by 10:40. I sent out a prayer request and 5 minutes later the lady came back with my completed passport. I was able to get to the airport and through security before my flight started boarding. Praise God !!
Then during the flight my neighbor told me the man and woman sitting in front of us was the President and First Lady of Honduras. Apparently their staff was sitting in first class but they wanted to stay in the economy section. My neighbors spoke to them some and then introduced me. They even let us take photos with them on the plane. So I went from having to harass clerks at the immigration office to shaking hands with the President. Talk about an interesting day :-D So I have another flight tomorrow. I am joining Allen in Florida for few days. We are teaching a solar workshop at Spanish River Church in Boca Raton. There is a link for the event here. Craig Kindell, the missions director at Spanish River, has joined us on several missions and has even lead a solar mission himself. Craig made the arrangements for this workshop with equipment purchased for a mission to Haiti and another to Columbia. Some of the attendants will be the missionaries who will be installing these systems after they are shipped. We did a similar workshop there last year with another team going to Haiti and had a great turnout. So we have high expectations for this one. Also, I'll be able to get a few State-side goodies to bring back with me, which is actually perfect timing because we just ran out of Chipotle Tabasco :D
So we did book our Christmas flights as promised. We will be in Houston from Dec 19th till the 28th and in Saint Louis from Dec 28th till January 1st. We were not able to use any of our miles due to the high airline traffic of the Christmas season. So we paid around $1,600. Those prices aren't terrible, but I make no promises for next year. We may just come to the States sometime in the summer instead and piggy back it off a mission trip. But we'll see what God does.
So if you want to see us while we're in town, then shoot me a message and we'll schedule something. We will have our US cell numbers active during the weeks we are there. There is also email, Facebook, Viber, and so on. :D See ya soon !! |
