Back in Teguc and back to the grind. I am working on designs for two different systems in Haiti. I'm watching flight prices for a couple trips, one to the States in July and one to Columbia in late Summer. There are also several other potential missions on the calender (recently updated) and even some not yet listed. In addition to that, we are working an earth day event hosted by the US Embassy on Friday, our church has a family day tomorrow, and I've been asked to be a judge at the TCA science fair next Friday. Still on the to-do list is finishing my 2013 taxes (yes I applied for an extension), post photos for several missions (last years missions and Panama), and renew my NABCEP certification (it expires next month). At least I don't think I am traveling anywhere in May, neither with-in Honduras or beyond, so hopefully I can get Caught Up. :D

Having breakfast at the Miami international airport. Training this weekend went great. We had a good turnout and the students seemed well engaged. There were lots of good questions throughout and much interest in the upcoming Spanish River missions to both Haiti and Columbia. I also had some great fellowship with the wonderful people at Spanish River. I look forward to going back in future years. But for now I'm happy to be going back home to Honduras and my sweet hubby :-D
So I have another flight tomorrow. I am joining Allen in Florida for few days. We are teaching a solar workshop at Spanish River Church in Boca Raton. There is a link for the event here. Craig Kindell, the missions director at Spanish River, has joined us on several missions and has even lead a solar mission himself. Craig made the arrangements for this workshop with equipment purchased for a mission to Haiti and another to Columbia. Some of the attendants will be the missionaries who will be installing these systems after they are shipped. We did a similar workshop there last year with another team going to Haiti and had a great turnout. So we have high expectations for this one. Also, I'll be able to get a few State-side goodies to bring back with me, which is actually perfect timing because we just ran out of Chipotle Tabasco :D
The training workshop in Florida turned out really well. We had over 20 participants, which is alot more than we expected, especially considering the invites went out by word of mouth and a few emails. We had the group split up into three teams and they each rotated through a station for building the control board, putting together the batteries, and assembling the solar panels. At the end, we brought everyone together for commissioning the system (fancy word for turning it on). There was much excitement when they saw the solar system that they had built running a fan. I even heard a lady point to the wires that she and another woman had installed and exclaim that they had done that :) That equipment will be shipped down to an orphanage in Haiti. Some of them may even go to see the final installation. But they all had a hand in building it, which I know is a great feeling. Thanks Craig and Allen for the photos. More are posted on the Spanish River Church site here.
Welp, I'm headed to Florida. Allen and I are teaching a SLP solar workshop at Spanish River Church near Fort Lauderdale. We will be building and showing them how to install a small system that they will take to an orphanage in Haiti. We also get to visit with some missionaries from a couple previous Haiti trips. While there, I will be staying with a Honduran family. So that's cool. :-) I'll be back home on Sunday.
Well, I already have another flight booked. This one is a short State-side trip in May. Allen and I will be teaching a SLP solar powered workshop at Spanish River Church in Florida. We have worked with their short term mission coordinator on a couple projects already. In-fact he and one other joined us for a week on the latest Haiti mission. This workshop will help prepare future mission trippers to participate in one of several potential solar projects related to SRC church plants. The workshop registration is here if anyone in the Florida area is interested or if you just want some more info about the workshop itself.
My trip to OH went well. The SLP Celebration Dinner was a success. We had a good turnout and I got to visit with lots of SLP peeps :) I also got to spend some time visiting with dear friends and family in Lexington, KY where I lived for almost 6 years.
Next week I'll be going to Sacramento, CA for some more solar training. I'll be taking 3 days of solar courses which will fulfill the continuing education requirements for my NABCEP certification. The next mission trip is also shaping up. We'll be going back to Haiti for three weeks in April. The flights aren't booked quite yet, but they will be soon. Hopefully I'll be able to post actual dates and list of projects later this week. |
