Back in the States

Hey Guys. Sorry I couldn't do another post while in Honduras. We had some very long days. I heard we had a little internet at the hotel, but I never found a moment to crack open the net-book. We did successfully complete the three installations / fiestas at schools in southern Honduras on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. On Friday we went to the Pacific coast beach for a little R&R, drove back to Tegucigalpa, washed-up, and then had our celebration dinner.

Our Thanksgiving day (Thursday) consisted of our final school installation, which of course went the smoothest, and a church service in Nacaome. The team was pretty tired by this point, but worshiping God with our brothers & sisters in Christ refreshed us spiritually. It's amazing how worship can connect us despite the language and cultural barriers.

The Cobblestone Community Church group was a real pleasure to work with. They, each one of them, have the hearts of a missionary. Even though they worked beyond the point of exhaustion and found themselves traveling in unexpectedly (for them) harsh conditions, they were always excited about getting out there and serving the children of Honduras. During the entire mission, the group was talking about future trips and when they might come again. They were hot, tired, bruised, and sore, and still wanting more. I look forward to working with this group again :D

Team arrived safe and sound

The team arrived on Saturday except one. One member was not able to board the plane because her passport is due to expire in two months and travel restrictions to Honduras require a passport that is good for at least 90 days. We are checking to see if there is anything that can be done, but so far nothing promising has surfaced. The rest of the team will go on with the trip as planned.

Sutton arrive one hour before the rest of the team and I finally got to introduce him to Mau and Mei Moncada, the hosts that I've been working with since my first mission over three years ago. We spent yesterday organizing equipment and running errands .... such as going to the hardware store. Today was a relaxing day of church, shopping, and fellowship. Most of the team come from a Church in Cincinnati called Cobblestone Community Church. I can already tell that they have a missionaries heart for service and a passion for the Lord. This is gonna be a great week !!

We leave for the department of Valle in the morning. We will be staying at a hotel just outside of the village of Nacaome which is about two hours south of Teguc. We will install solar power at three schools near the boarder of El Salvador and teaching around 300 children about the love of Jesus :D I'll see if I can do a few posts from the hotel, but that's assuming there will be internet. If not, I'll give an update when we get back to Teguc next Friday. See ya later :D

Repair trip complete, team arrives tomorrow

I got back from the repair trip today. The trip went well. It was back out at the schools on one of the worst roads I've ever traveled. .... My bum is not happy with me .... It's times like those that I really wish I had a helmet camera. Words or even pictures don't do it justice and holding a camera is simply not possible. I did take some pics though :D

Also, I got a phone, and managed to keep it while on that road. :) My new number, for those of you who need it, is (from the States): 011 504 9802 4283

The US team arrives tomorrow. Today I will go through the rest of the equipment and maybe make a hardware run. Once the team is here we can get ALL the stuff organized and ready to go. We will stay in Teguc on Sunday because it is an election day. I'll try to give another update before we head out on Monday. There's no telling if we will have internet once we leave Teguc, but it's possible.
Picture
This is what you call STUCK. The truck slid into a very deep hole. And this was one of the drier parts of the "road."
Picture
Two gentleman from down the mountain came up with some pickaxes and filled in the holes. This is one thing I love about these mountain communities, if you need help all you have to do is ask. There are no "strangers" in these parts of the world.

I arrived safely in Tegucigalpa yesterday. After some lunch we went to the site survey for a company here in the city. That went well and I believe I got all the info we need. Then we picked-up the kids and went out for some baleadas, one of my favorite Honduran dishes :) Today I will be going through equipment, prepping for the repair trip tomorrow, getting a Honduran phone, and other various tasks. All with the help of our wonderful hosts, the Moncadas :D

Finally all packed and ready to go. My flight leaves at 9 am which isn't too bad. Please keep us in your prayers. And keep praying for Allen's back. He decided that it was best not to come on this mission at all since he is still on a lot of pain medication. So I guess that means I'll have to have all the answers ......... so yea ... prayers are good :D

Spoke to Allen today. His back is still in too much pain for a Tuesday departure to Honduras. He may come for the mission itself if he is feeling better by next weekend, but nothing is certain. I am still going down on Tuesday. So I'll be flying solo for the mission prep work, meetings, site survey, and a quick repair trip. Please keep me and Allen in your prayers and the mission as well. Thank you.

Hey guys. Allen had an accident at SLP's solar training grounds. He was on a tractor and it rolled over. It did not land on him, praise God, though it came within inches. So he is ok but his back is rather upset with him. Doctor is a little concerned with how it will do on Honduran "roads." Please pray for healing, peace, and guidance. The mission is still on, but we are a little unsure of his being able to go. Thanks.

Hello. I am going through expense reports and account updates. I leave for the next mission in one week. I am still about $700 short for this mission. We will be installing solar power systems in another 3 mountainside schools in the southern part of Honduras. Will you please consider donating to this mission? I would love to finish out this extraordinary year in the black. You can donate at the Support Me tab. There is a small section that you fill out on the bottom and then click continue. Let me know if you have any problems or questions by emailing terri@sonlightpower.org. Thank you so much for your help!

Honduras Flights booked :D

The November Honduras flights have now been booked. Allen and I will be there from Nov 13th through the 24th. The team, including my wonderful husband Sutton :D, will join us from Nov 17th to the 24th. Allen and I are going early to prep for the mission, do a site survey for another project, go to a few meetings, and hopefully do a quick repair trip. Yes that means we will all be there during Thanksgiving, which personally I think is fitting. There is much to be thankful for in Honduras :)
