What A Blessed Week!

12/20/2014

What a week we've had! We moved into our new home on Sunday! We are renting a beautiful 2 story house with 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths within walking distance from the church. It is up on a big hill so there is always a wonderful breeze and a pretty decent view. For the following 3 days I have been going from one store to another getting some of the hundreds of things needed for a home. We were able to find a used fridge and stove from another missionary for a very good price. We got a new bed, microwave, and coffee maker (very important) :-D Then on Thursday we had our first bbq and had several friends over from the church! We had a great time time and the house was filled with laughter and fellowship.

And now we are at the airport awaiting a flight to the States! We will be in Houston till Dec 29th, then going to Virginia for two days, then on to Saint Louis for 6 days, back to Houston for 4 days, spend a day in Louisiana, and finally back to our home on Jan 11th. Whew! We are so blessed and looking forward to seeing all our friends and family :-D Have a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year!!

I was able to join Ignites Christmas mission here in Honduras last week. They had a team come from several different States to spread the love of Christ.  We spent two days going to 12 different schools to hand out hundreds and hundreds of stockings and sing songs with the kids. All along the awesome dirt roads of the Honduras mountains. What FUN !! :D Here are some pics for your enjoyment. Have a wonderful Christmas season !!!

Missionaries to Honduras: Joining Another Organization

10/30/2014

Sutton and I have been full-time missionaries here in Honduras for a little over a year now. He has been working hard at the school (TCA) and I have been helping out where I can in addition to the SLP solar missions. We have been burdened to do more with ministries here but have been unclear as to how. We believe the Lord has finally given us that direction. We met a wonderful couple by the name of Sam and Peggy Feazel who run a Christian non-profit organization called Ignite Missions. Their vision is to plant churches in remote villages and disciple new believers, which is exactly the desire that God has placed in our hearts. They have many outreach ministries which bring in teams who do anything from construction to medical / dental to VBS and more. The ultimate goal of every activity is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and see lives transformed for God. You can learn more about their ministries on their website at: www.ignitemissions.org.

We have been talking with Sam and Peggy about joining with them and what it takes to become Ignite missionaries. We are now officially Ignite missionary candidates and are scheduled to go before their board in January. Please be in prayer for us that the Lord would make His desires clear; that He would open the doors He wants open and shut the doors He wants shut.

Additionally, for those of you living in TX, Ignite will be having a big fund raising event in Houston (Cypress) on Nov 17th. Sam suggested that we invite our Houston friends to come out and see what it is they do. He would like to personally meet any of those who support us so, if you have any interest in going, please be sure to introduce yourselves to Sam. The registration and info for the event is located here: http://www.ignitemissions.org/#!houston-fundrasier/c1shb.

For all others, Ignite is having additional events at these locations:
Watertown, TN on Nov 1st: http://www.ignitemissions.org/#!nashville-fund-event/c1ynu
Cypress, CA on Nov 6th: http://www.ignitemissions.org/#!california-fundraising-event/c4jo
Shreveport, LA on Nov 11th: http://www.ignitemissions.org/#!shreveport/c1b3a
Franklinton, LA on Nov 13th:
http://www.ignitemissions.org/#!franklinton-fundraiser/cq25

Thank you everyone for your support. We'll be sure to give an update to the outcome of our meeting. God bless you all and to Him be the glory !! :D

Honduras SLP Mission

We just finished a week long mission here in our home country of Honduras :D Cobblestone Community Church joined with SonLight Power to bring light and hope to three remote communities in Honduras. We definitely had our shares of challenges. The major one being that the equipment is STILL stuck in customs. We had to put together three systems with what we had in storage and what we were able to buy here in Tegucigalpa. God provided a way to make it work and all three schools now have physical light and the spiritual light of Christ's love. The weather even cooperated with us with just enough rain to cool things a bit but not enough to soup-ify the roads, of which those roads are quite capable. The team is now on their way back home and I am prepping for our next mission. I will be leaving for a mission to Haiti in 6 days. So if I don't get photos posted before then it will be when I come back from Haiti in mid-November. But here is one from just outside Trojes where we stayed during the mission.

Back Home in Honduras, Support Updates

We had a wonderful visit in the States with family and friends. We also met with our sending church, Ethos. Ethos has been absorbed into their parent church, Faith Assembly, due to insufficient members. They now make up a young adult ministry at Faith. We were able to sit down with Pastor Dan, the head pastor at Faith, and discuss our future with them. Pastor Dan was very encouraging and assured us that Faith will continue to support us as Ethos had in being our US sending church. In addition to that, he said Faith would add some financial support. Praise God !! So everyone please pray for Faith Assembly and the Ethos ministry for growth and provision. I have updated our Support page to reflect the new mailing address for those wishing to support Sutton and me.

We are now back in our home country of Honduras and Sutton is already back to work at Tsebaoth Christian Academy. He will be teaching 6th grade this year :) We also came home to water and power shortages. It seems Honduras is in a major drought so they are rationing water. And since most of our power comes from a nearby damn, they will be rationing power as well. The newspaper says we'll have 4 hours of outages a day for the next month or so. So please pray for Honduras as well. Pray that the Lord will send the rains to water our crops and to provide water and electricity for our residents. Thank you and God Bless !!

Work Work Work

Back in Teguc and back to the grind. I am working on designs for two different systems in Haiti. I'm watching flight prices for a couple trips, one to the States in July and one to Columbia in late Summer. There are also several other potential missions on the calender (recently updated) and even some not yet listed. In addition to that, we are working an earth day event hosted by the US Embassy on Friday, our church has a family day tomorrow, and I've been asked to be a judge at the TCA science fair next Friday. Still on the to-do list is finishing my 2013 taxes (yes I applied for an extension), post photos for several missions (last years missions and Panama), and renew my NABCEP certification (it expires next month). At least I don't think I am traveling anywhere in May, neither with-in Honduras or beyond, so hopefully I can get Caught Up. :D

On the up-side, Craig did post some photos from the workshop this past weekend. I have included a few pics below, but you can also go here to see the full album.

Interesting Day

I am now at my host home in Boca Raton, FL after a somewhat eventful day. This morning was a little nerve racking as I wasn't sure I was going to make my flight. I had to get an extension on my visa which means leaving my passport with the immigration office. Last week was Semana Santa (Holy Week) so most of the country was off work. The earliest I could take my passport to the immigration office was this Monday. So I took it in and told the lady that I had a flight booked for today and she assured me my passport would be ready to pickup at 9 am this morning. But of course when we went in to get it they did not have it ready. At first the lady could not find it. Then they found it in a stack awaiting the directors signature but were reluctant to take it to the director. So we basically stood there and harassed them until they got annoyed with us enough to go to the directors office. At this point it was already 10:20 and I had to be at the airport by 10:40. I sent out a prayer request and 5 minutes later the lady came back with my completed passport. I was able to get to the airport and through security before my flight started boarding. Praise God !!

Then during the flight my neighbor told me the man and woman sitting in front of us was the President and First Lady of Honduras. Apparently their staff was sitting in first class but they wanted to stay in the economy section. My neighbors spoke to them some and then introduced me. They even let us take photos with them on the plane. So I went from having to harass clerks at the immigration office to shaking hands with the President. Talk about an interesting day :-D

Photo Albums and Other Updates

3/13/2014

In addition to prepping for the Panama mission trip, I've been working on the previous mission photo albums. I did not get all three albums done from 2013, but I did at least get the first one finished and posted (Mission #17). I will continue to work on the others in-between system designs for future missions and other various SLP tasks. There are also a number of things to do as a full-time missionary here in Honduras. For example, the paperwork is finally submitted for my Honduran residency. So hopefully I will have that in the next 3-6 months. Yay!! Sutton and I also spent a few days out on a dairy farm in Olancho, which was really neat, and an afternoon at a drug rehab center near Tegus. We're not sure what God has in store for us here in Honduras, but it sure seems interesting. :D

New Support Channel Avaliable

12/4/2013

We finally have the channel set-up to receive support as missionaries in Honduras. Ethos (our church in Houston) has agreed to take donations on our behalf to allow supporters to make a tax free donation (they are a 501c3 org). I have posted the link for online donations and the mailing address for checks on the Support tab. All donations going to SLP (link on the left side) will continue to be used for solar missions. All donations going to Ethos (link on the right side) will come to us as support for ministering in Honduras.

I have also added a pledge form. If you have felt the Lord prompt you to support us then please fill out a pledge. It is not binding, but it does help us to make plans. Also, we would like to connect more with our supporters in some form such as a monthly news letter, or prayers request emails, or a closed Facebook group or some such. We are still figuring that stuff out :)

We also have several specific needs if you want to make a one-time donation. We need help getting a vehicle (around $6,000),
Honduran residency fees (around $1,000), Honduran drivers licenses (around $300), and help with the airline tickets (around $1,600). Send me a message if you make a donation and you want to designate it to any of these needs. I think there is also a notes section on the PayPal site if you use your card.

Thank you so much for your support !! Please keep praying for us
as we walk out this whole missionaries to Honduras thing :D God Bless !!
