So I've made our first missionary support/prayer card. Have you been thinking about supporting us? Would you like a prayer reminder? Or do you simply want an nice photo :) Email your name and address to terri@solarmissionary.org and I'll put you on the list. I hope to mail these out in the next week or so.

The team arrived safely in Panama City yesterday and we are now settled in our hotel in the town of Santa Catalina. Tomorrow we will take a boat ride to the island and get everything scoped out for the different projects we are doing there. Hopefully the solar team can get a good start on the work as we have much to do. Keep us in your prayers please. I can already tell we have have a great team and we're excited to be here. This should be an amazing week, to God be the glory!
In addition to prepping for the Panama mission trip, I've been working on the previous mission photo albums. I did not get all three albums done from 2013, but I did at least get the first one finished and posted (Mission #17). I will continue to work on the others in-between system designs for future missions and other various SLP tasks. There are also a number of things to do as a full-time missionary here in Honduras. For example, the paperwork is finally submitted for my Honduran residency. So hopefully I will have that in the next 3-6 months. Yay!! Sutton and I also spent a few days out on a dairy farm in Olancho, which was really neat, and an afternoon at a drug rehab center near Tegus. We're not sure what God has in store for us here in Honduras, but it sure seems interesting. :D
I am almost ready for the next SLP mission. For the last week I've been going over equipment lists and making plans for the three different installs we will do. This will be a full SLP team with a group for fiesta activities. The fiesta team will interact with the children with games and fun activities that teach Biblical lessons, like a short VBS. The technical team will install a small solar system at a church and two medium sized systems, one at a school and one at a clinic. The install locations will be on an island in the province of Veraguas, Panama. We'll be staying in a small coastal town called Santa Catalina and taking a boat over to Isla Gobernadora each day. This will be my first trip to the country of Panama and it looks to be adventurous. :D Speaking of, please keep the team/mission in your prayers. We will be there from this Saturday (the 15th) until the Sunday of the following week (the 23rd). Thank ya much !!
Meet Kendall Moss. She is the Missions Director at Alex's House Orphanage in Haiti. If there is one country I am thankful God has NOT called me to full-time, it's Haiti. I am happy to go and minister there whenever He opens the door, but I would not want to live there. Life as a missionary in Haiti is HARD. Not that the missionary life is ever easy, but Haiti heaps an extra load of difficulties on its missionaries. It's not so much the living conditions, though they are rough, but dealing with prejudices, the Haitian culture, and the government that make living in that country especially hard. Sutton and I are so blessed to be called to a country like Honduras, and I thank Him for that every time I visit Haiti.
Kendall has been living and ministering in Haiti for 7 months now and she needs a home. The plans are drawn and the footers (part of the foundation) have been poured, but she needs alot of support to get it built. Please consider supporting her in this endevor. You can read more about it and find links to help on her blog post There's No Place Like Home. Thank you and God bless :) I have posted the photo album for my most recent trip to Haiti (Mission #20). I still need to finish the photo albums for last years missions (Mission #17 - 19). I promise I am working on them. I should have them finished before I leave for my next mission. Speaking of which, the next mission has been booked. :)
I am going to Panama, a new country :D, from March 15th through the 23rd. SLP is sending a largish team to an island just off the coast of Panama. We will be installing solar in a school, clinic, and church. There will be a SLP fiesta team to minister to the children and a small medical mission. The full-time missionaries there will also be hosting a Serve & Surf ministry team. So ...... we will apparently get the opportunity to learn surfing on our off day. Yep, there are indeed perks in the life of a missionary. :D Things are moving along here in Haiti. I found myself on another roof today. Buster (a pastor) found himself pulling wire with all his might. And Kendell (missionary) found herself feeding a baby goat. Just, you know, your average goings on in places like this. And some people don't think God has a humor. :)
Safely in Haiti. Tomorrow we'll be hittin it hard at Alex's House Orphanage. We are doing a bunch of updates on the system at the orphanage. Keep us in your prayers please.
My next mission trip is now booked. I am going back to Haiti, back to Alex's House Orphanage, for some much needed updates at the orphanage itself. Last time we installed a new system at the guest house across the street from the orphanage, the one with that STEEP roof. The roofs at the orphanage itself are much easier to work on :) I will be there from Feb 1st till Feb 8th (with another day before and after for travel). I will be working with some guys who will be down there doing some other projects for Alex's House. I'll be the only representative from SLP this time. This will also be my first mission from our new home base of Honduras. I'm looking forward to another successful solar installation. Pray that it might be so. And Thank You!
We finally have the channel set-up to receive support as missionaries in Honduras. Ethos (our church in Houston) has agreed to take donations on our behalf to allow supporters to make a tax free donation (they are a 501c3 org). I have posted the link for online donations and the mailing address for checks on the Support tab. All donations going to SLP (link on the left side) will continue to be used for solar missions. All donations going to Ethos (link on the right side) will come to us as support for ministering in Honduras.
I have also added a pledge form. If you have felt the Lord prompt you to support us then please fill out a pledge. It is not binding, but it does help us to make plans. Also, we would like to connect more with our supporters in some form such as a monthly news letter, or prayers request emails, or a closed Facebook group or some such. We are still figuring that stuff out :) We also have several specific needs if you want to make a one-time donation. We need help getting a vehicle (around $6,000), Honduran residency fees (around $1,000), Honduran drivers licenses (around $300), and help with the airline tickets (around $1,600). Send me a message if you make a donation and you want to designate it to any of these needs. I think there is also a notes section on the PayPal site if you use your card. Thank you so much for your support !! Please keep praying for us as we walk out this whole missionaries to Honduras thing :D God Bless !! |
